Today's Reading:
Acts 2:32-38 (NIV)
32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand 35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’ 36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”  37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”  38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Consider This:
  • What is happening in these verses of scripture?
  • How would you describe the scene?
  • What is the main subject of this passage?
  • What point is God trying to make?
Treasure Application:
  • What forms of bondage can we find freedom from when we learn that Jesus died and was raised so that we could be saved?
  • What false ideas did you have to unlearn before you were able to accept Jesus as your savior?

  • Have you been saved?
  • When did this happen?
  • What does being “saved” mean?

  • Without God raising Jesus to life, what invitation to hope would we have?
  • When you think about loving God, what characteristics of God stand out in your mind?

Romans 8:28 (NIV)
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

  • What was God accomplishing?
  • What advantages did this give the disciples when they went out to other countries to preach?
  • How does Romans 8:28 support this idea?
  • Have you been filled with the Holy Spirit?
  • Can you be filled more?
  • Does God have all of you?

Today's Reading:
Acts 2:1-4 (NIV)
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Acts 19:1-2 (NIV)
1 While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”  They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
Consider This:
  • What does it mean to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
  • What does it feel like?
  • How many times can you be filled with the Holy Spirit?
  • Explain your understanding of Acts 19:1-2.
  • What conclusions can you draw from Paul’s encounter?
Treasure Application:
  • In Acts 19:1-2, how was Paul serving the disciples in Ephesus?
  • Do you think Paul’s service allowed them to experience healing?
  • Paul once persecuted Christians, do you think serving Christians and leading non-Christians to Jesus allowed Paul to experience from the wounds created from his time as a persecutor?

Acts 2:1-4 (NIV)
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Genesis 2:7 (NIV)
7 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Isaiah 6:6-7 (NIV)
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
Consider This:
  • Do you think Jesus knew this was going to happen?
  • Why do you think so?
  • Why are the symbols of “tongues and fire” important?
  • Why is the sound like “wind?”
  • What is the Holy Spirit? See Genesis 2:7
  • Can you find other examples of this “wind?” See Isaiah 6:6-7
  • What conclusions can you draw from comparing these two passages?
  • How is your mouth?
Treasure Application:
  • How does prayer help you to recognize what the Holy Spirit is doing in and around you?
  • Have you ever seen the Holy Spirit in operation, and it motivated you to pray with greater sincerity, focus, or passion?

Acts 2:1-12 (NIV)
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
Consider This:
  • What is happening in these verses?
  • How do you picture the scene?
  • What does the room sound like?
  • How would you have felt if you had been there?
Treasure Application:
  • What are some false ideas that people have about the Holy Spirit that keep them in bondage?
  • How does the Holy Spirit help us to find freedom?

  • Have you ever been taught about the Holy Spirit?
  • What do you know about Him?

Today's Reading:
Acts 1:8 (NIV)
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Consider This:
  • What does Jesus want from the disciples?
  • What is their job?
  • Do we have the same job?
  • Are there other parts of the Bible that give us this assignment? see Matthew 28:19-20. This is God’s plan for salvation.
  • What happens if we don’t do our job?
  • Who will we disappoint?
  • Can you find a way to witness?
Treasure Application:
  • What is the connection between witnessing and loving others?
  • When you accepted Christ as your savior, did anyone you know “discover joy” when they found out?
