Today's Reading:
Ruth 1:14-18
14 At this they wept aloud again. Then Orpah kissed her mother-in-law goodbye, but Ruth clung to her.15 “Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her.”
16 But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17 Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.” 18 When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her.
Consider This:
  • Do you think Naomi was relieved to have Ruth with her?
  • Why is it nice to have someone committed to you when you are going through a difficult time?
  • Does Ruth follow through on her commitment?
  • How does God honor Ruth’s commitment to Naomi?
  • What can you commit to today that will further the cause of Christ?
Treasure Application:
  • How did Naomi love Ruth well?
  • Do you think Naomi’s love allowed Ruth to discover joy?
  • Do you think their relationship brought Naomi joy?

  • What is she telling Naomi?
  • Will this commitment make Ruth’s life more difficult? Explain.
  • Why do you think Ruth stays with Naomi?
  • Who do you “want to be like” Ruth or Orpah? Explain.

Today's Reading:
Daniel 3:14-19 (NIV)
14 and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the image of gold I have set up? 15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?”
16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” 19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual
Consider This:
  • What is happening in these verses?
  • How do you picture the scene?
  • What emotions are being demonstrated?
  • Can you blame Nebuchadnezzar for being angry?
  • Why is Nebuchadnezzar angry?
  • Not including the “furnace” what other pressures would have been felt by the three boys?
Treasure Application:
  • What false beliefs did Nebuchadnezzar have about God?
  • How did Nebuchadnezzar learning the truth about God lead to freedom for the boys?
  • How did Nebuchadnezzar find freedom?
